What are the jobs of a badminton referee?
Referee’s responsibilities and division of labor
1. Chief Referee: Fully responsible for the game.
2. On-the-spot referee: preside over a game and manage the stadium and its surroundings. The referee on the spot shall be responsible to the chief referee.
3. Serving referee: shall be responsible for announcing the serving violation of the serving player.
4. Line referee: Adjudicate “in-bounds” or “out-of-bounds” for the ball’s drop point in its branch line.
Working methods of on-the-spot referees
1. The verdict on the facts within the responsibilities under his control is the final verdict.
2. Maintain and implement the rules of the badminton game, and promptly declare “violations” or “re-serves”, etc.
3. The appeal shall be decided before the next serve.
4. Enable athletes and spectators to keep abreast of the progress of the game.
5. After consulting with the chief referee, replace the line or serve referee.
6. When there is a lack of referees on the spot, make arrangements for the duties that no one performs.
7. When the referee fails to see clearly, perform the duty or sentence to “re-serve the ball.”
8. Submit all disputes related to the rules to the chief referee (similar appeals, athletes must file before the next serve; if the end of a game, they should file before leaving the field).
