Do you know the Badminton Sudirman Cup?
In 1986, the board of directors convened by the International Badminton Federation put forward the proposal to hold a mixed team competition for the first time. In 1988, the International Badminton Federation accepted and specified the simultaneous holding of mixed team competitions and individual championships. And decided to use the Sudirman Cup as the championship trophy for the mixed team competition. In 1989, the first Sudirman Cup and the sixth World Badminton Championship were held simultaneously in Indonesia. It is also stipulated that this competition will be held every two years. Every even-numbered year is the Thomas and Uber Cup, and the odd-numbered year is the Sudirman Cup.
The Sudirman Cup is scheduled to be held at the same time and place as the World Championship. The Sudirman Cup adopts a five-match three-win system and consists of five events: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. The competition also adopted a de-escalation system, that is, at the end of each level-the name is lowered to the next level, and the first in the next level is promoted to the next level. Only the 6 teams participating in the A-level competition are eligible to compete for the championship.
