How is platform tennis scored?
The scoring method of platform tennis is the same as that of tennis, usually two wins in three games. However, the scoring rules are significantly different. One point will be lost in the following situations:
· The ball bounces twice;
· The ball falls outside the baseline or sideline or hits the net or any other object;
· A player hits the ball when the ball does not completely cross the net to reach their area;
· Players deliberately grab or hold the ball with their hands;
· The ball touches any part of the player’s body;
· A player bounces back to the court after hitting the ball out of the playing area or hitting an object outside the court;
· Players touch the net during the game;
· The player throws the racket at the ball and hits the ball.
If you want to explore the rules and etiquette of the game in depth, the American Platform Tennis Association can provide related resources.
Platform tennis uses a sponge ball with a diameter of 2.5 inches (64 mm), which is heavier than a regular tennis ball. The racket can be up to 18 inches (460 mm) in size and contains 87 holes with a diameter of no more than 3/8 inches (9.5 mm) to enhance its aerodynamics. The surface of the racket has a rough texture to increase the hit rate and spin strength of the ball.
Finally, what excites tennis players who specialize in doubles is that doubles is the main form of all this type of tennis.
