What is the development history of Padel?
Padel is a sport that combines the characteristics of courtyard tennis, regular tennis, squash and table tennis. There are about 6-10 million people playing Padel in Spain, while the active population playing ordinary tennis is only 200,000. Padel was invented by Enrique Coquila in Acapulco, Mexico in 1969. It is currently most popular in Latin American countries such as Argentina and Mexico, as well as Spain and Andorra. It is now beginning to spread rapidly in other parts of Europe and other continents. Padel Professional Tour (PPT) is a professional tour created in 2005. The tour was jointly sponsored by the Padel tournament organizers, the Padel Professional Players Association (AJPP) and the Spanish Pedel Women’s Association (AFEP). The most famous Padel Tour is the World Padel Tour (WPT) launched in Spain. In 2019, only 6 of the 19 championships were held outside Spain.There is currently no international platform padel association, but there are national platform padel organizations around the world, such as the American platform padel association. The US Platform Tennis Association’s game schedule includes youth, adult men and women, and college games.
